Success Stories

Oakland, California -- An urgent message was received at srdogs: "Help, please! We found a beautiful, gentle dog lying, half-starved, in a patch of ivy in our neighborhood. We've advertised in two local papers and left a notice at the shelter, but his former human companions don't seem interested in finding him. He is a treasure! He's probably a Great Dane/Pit mix, anywhere from 5 to 9 years old. We call him George, though he doesn't answer back just yet."

Adoption Report:

June 2000 -- "Thank you so much for placing George on your site. We got at least three calls from people who had seen him there. Very impressive! I wanted to let you know that George does, in fact, have a new home. Someone responded to my posting on Craig's List last Wednesday, had a trial weekend with him, and decided to keep him. They seem like they will make a fantastic family for George."

Portland, Oregon -- Kayla, a beautiful 8-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog was at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland. She is a docile girl who walks nicely on lead, likes other dogs and children, and is spayed and micro-chipped. She has beautiful and exotic eyes, one blue and one brown.

Adoption Report:

August 2000 -- "Kayla found a home through the Oregon Humane Society where she was 'hanging out.' And...the new director of our county shelter will be more inclined to foster the older dogs they have been killing...because of your web site. He was so happy to hear of the Senior Dogs Project."

Long Island, NY -- Mavis was on the expedited euthanizing list of a kill shelter on Long Island. A ten-year-old German Shepherd mix, black all over with a white muzzle, she is a very dignified dog, and gets along exceptionally well with other dogs, cats, and kids. Stress at the shelter had caused her to lose some of her beautiful coat, but she did her best to remain gentle, calm, and extremely loving. She is not a big dog -- only about 50 pounds, but every ounce is deserving of living out a natural lifespan with a loving family.

Adoption Report:

September 2000 -- "I just cannot thank you enough for your website and all of the contacts you have. I will take Mavis to Hartford, CT, and then her foster mom will drive her home to Wendell, MA, on Saturday. The woman who is taking her is a gift from God."

Homer, Alaska -- Mavis (#2) is a wonderful and friendly dog who grins when you call her name and who has an endearing habit of tilting her head when she greets friends. She's about 10 years old. She's not necessarily the kind of dog people go crazy over on first meeting, but the shelter staff grew to love her very much and knew she was just a wonderful dog who deserved the opportunity to live out her years in comfort and love.

Adoption Report:

August 2000 -- "Mavis asked me to write and thank you for featuring her on your wonderful site. And to tell you that a wonderful family with a little boy who fell in love with her, adopted her today! The whole family came to visit her over a 3 day period and it was a total family decision....they want to give her a home full of love to live out her years. They think she is absolutely wonderful. We are so absolutely thrilled for Mavis and will miss her sweet face. Thank you so much for all your help in trying to find her a home."
