Doggies disappear, but they never really go away. As spirits, they put the sun to bed, wake up the grass, and spin the earth in dizzy circles. Sometimes you can see them dancing in a cloud during the daytime when they are supposed to be napping. These spirits paint the rainbows and the sunsets and make waves splash and tug at the tide. They toss shooting stars and listen to wishes. And when they sing windsongs, they whisper to us, "Don't miss me too much, the view is nice and I'm doing just fine." And quietly, privately, deep in my heart, I am content to know that God has given her a heaven full of cloud pillows to rest on. Contributed by Deana Brody, Sedona, AZ. April 2004. |

"...I ask my Mistress to remember me, always, but not to grieve for me too long. In my life I have tried to be a comfort to her in time of sorrow and an added joy in her life's happiness. It is painful for me to think that even in death I shall cause her pain. Let her remember that, while no dog ever had a happier life, I have now grown ill and pained. I should not want my pride to sink to bewildered humiliation. It is time for me to say 'Good-bye.' It will be a sorrow to leave her, but not a sorrow to die. Dogs do not fear death, as men do. We accept it as a part of life, not as something alien and terrible that destroys life. What will become of me after death? I would like to believe I will be in a place where one is always young. Where I will someday be joined by companions I've known in life. Where I will romp in lovely fields with those who have gone before me. Where every hour is mealtime. Where in long evenings there are fireplaces with logs forever burning and one curls oneself up and remembers the brave old days on earth and the love of one's Mistress. This is much to expect, but peace, at least, is certain...and a long rest for these weakened limbs...and eternal sleep which is, perhaps, the best......"Contributed by Carol Marsh, in memory of Casey |

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together........" Author Unknown |
