News about Blue, His Soldier, and Others, from Iraq......

May 9 Update ---

Blue is now safe with an Iraqi family. After the incident in which he escaped from the car that was going to carry him to safety, he was successfully transported to their home (with all car windows tightly shut!). As you may be aware, the Islamic religion does not have a high regard for dogs. The family that has taken Blue in is not Islamic, however, and in fact has a very high regard for Blue -- for his intelligence, his loyalty, and his delightful personality. Since the family is already bonding with Blue, it is likely that he will remain with them as part of their family, rather than be brought to the US.

Blue's soldier used every possible resource at his disposal to save Blue from the stray dog round-ups and shootings, to find a non-Islamic family that would take him in, and to make the complex arrangements to get him to safety. While Blue has found safety and a new home, however, another close buddy and battalion-mate of Blue's soldier (and also a friend of Blue) was not so lucky; he was the victim recently of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). Please pause, when you can, for a moment of silence in memory of this soldier and all who have died in this terrible conflict.

Once again, we thank every concerned and compassionate person who has offered help in this effort to save Blue and to express support for our troops in Iraq. There may be a few misguided American soldiers who have brought disgrace upon our country by their inhumane and abhorrent treatment of Iraqi prisoners, and who have further endangered our troops by creating outrage among the Iraqi populace. We are grateful to know -- as we are sure you do -- soldiers (Blue's protector among them) whose compassion, humanity, professionalism and high moral standards are unquestionable.
