Name: Bandit and Millie
Mix/Breed: Akita/Mastiff mixes
Sex/Age/Weight: Bandit: Male, 9 years, 115 lbs and Millie, 9 years, 76 lbs
Health: Neutered/Spayed Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the rescue group listed below.
History/Personality: Bandit and Millie are two gorgeous Akita/ Mastiff mixes who were surrendered to the city shelter when their owner's new landlord told him he couldn't have dogs. Now at 9 years old, this loving, affectionate brother and sister team need a loving home. Bandit, at 115 lbs, is the larger of the two and resembles a mastiff more in his body form and fur color, but has the lush, soft hair of an Akita. His sister Millie, who could stand to lose a pound or two ,weighs 76 lbs. Both are bright and alert. Bandit and his sister relish hugs and petting and are patient and calm, even when a photographer annoyed them with a flash. They are great with people but need to be the only dogs. To give these lovable, huggable seniors their last secure home would take an extraordinary humane person or family. If that is you, then please contact Jane at janethai@aol.com or Beth at 212 496 1053.

Name: Skittles
Mix/Breed: Shih Tzu
Sex/Age/Weight: Male, 10 1/2 years, small
Health: Altered; up to date on shots; requires inexpensive hypothyroid medication daily
History/Personality: Skittles is a sweet, older gentleman who would really love to spend the rest of his life being adored and doted on. He would be the perfect best friend for a senior citizen who is looking for a companion and walking partner -- a wonderful reason to get up and out of bed in the morning. His hypothyroid condition caused him to lose much of his hair when he was not taking his medication. Now that he is taking it regularly, his fur has been growing back in very nicely. He also has some arthritis and some vision and hearing deficiencies. It's no fun growing old - especially without your very own home! Skittles is being fostered in upstate New York. Please note: E-MAIL INQUIRIES WILL BE RESPONDED TO FASTER THAN TELEPHONE CALLS.

Name: Morgan
Mix/Breed: Border Collie
Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 12 years, 45 lbs.
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: A 12 year old Border Collie, Morgan is very sweet, obedient and well trained, a wonderful companion. She is also quite a character, very spirited and interested in everything and everyone. She is making us all chuckle as she enjoys life at the Farm. Sometimes she just loves a roll in the grass; other times exploring every inch of the yard; and other times, she wants to be your shadow 'on duty', checking out all the action. Morgan loves to ride in the car and her favorite treat is American cheese - just say cheese and she heads for the fridge for her nightly treat. Morgan has lived as a solo dog so is happiest without the chaos of other dogs so will be placed alone but she does just fine avoiding any trouble with all the gang of dogs around her now. Morgan is a bit overweight and will loose that over time, especially if she finds a guardian who loves walking. She is a very sweet girl who absolutely loves children and everyone she meets. Morgan is a bit nervous so will need calm cats so she can get used to them. She came to the Farm, relinquished due to the change in life where her guardians are moving to an assisted living situation and cannot take her. She came from Staten Island NY.
Adoption Fee: $200.00

Name: Lucie
Mix/Breed: Border Collie
Sex/Age/Weight: Female, 10 years, 45 lbs.
Health: Spayed. Up to date on shots. For additional health information, contact the agency listed below.
History/Personality: A 10 year old Border Collie with ABCA papers, Lucie is a charmer, a real sweetheart, eager to be with someone who will toss her the ball or frisbee. She loves playing and is always up for a good game of catch. She is a friendly girl and fine with other dogs though always most excited to play with toys. Lucie could easily fit in any Border Collie family. She is good with kids, great on leash and good in the car and also good with cats. A really wonderful, sweet girl, Lucie has been in one home since a puppy. She is carrying some extra weight which she'll loose easily at the Farm. She was relinquished to the farm due to a job change that left her alone way too long for her to be happy. She came to the Farm from upstate NY.
Adoption Fee: $200.00

Name: Sophie
Mix/Breed: Shepherd mix, possibly mixed with husky
Sex/Age/Weight: Spayed female, 10 and a half years old, 51 pounds currently, we expect her to gain a few more pounds
Health: Basically good, hardy, strong, heartworm negative, treated for lyme, not symptomatic, a little hard of hearing but not deaf
History/Personality: Sophie is the sweetest dog you could imagine, good with kids and adults. Knows sit, give paw, and likes to snuggle on a bed or have her tummy rubbed. She craves affection, as she was neglected and spent her life chained outdoors and in a garage at night. Her family did feed her well and cooked for her, but they didn't understand how hard it was on Sophie to not be fully "part of the family." Now she is adapting well to indoor life in her foster home, sleeping in the bedroom and enjoying more attention. Sophie is strong and will pull a bit on leash, but this is easily correctible. She is small in stature, not a large girl. Loves car rides and walks and afternoon naps. Sophie must be leash walked only, she will get off a lead or dig under a fence or bolt out a gate. Her adopter will need to watch her carefully when entering and leaving the home and be committed to keeping her on leash. She is good with most other dogs her size or bigger, not recommended for a home with cats.
Adoption Fee: $75
Agency/Location/Contact Info: CareNCompassion Rescue, Carmel, NY, write to Karen at revkb@bestweb.net to inquire about Sophie or for more pictures of this beautiful girl. |

The Yonkers, NY, Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help take animals to adoption fairs. Dogs over "a certain age" are routinely left behind at the shelter while the younger dogs are taken to the fairs. If you can volunteer, please be sure to specify that you wish to concentrate on the older dogs and to take one of them to an upcoming adoption fair. In these photos you'll see three of the beautiful older dogs currently being left behind. They will not have long before they are euthanized, so please don't hesitate to contact the shelter right away to ask about volunteering. See information on how to volunteer. |
