Since its founding in 1988, Doberman Rescue Unlimited, a non-profit rescue organization, has helped over 1,200 homeless Doberman Pinschers. Why so many? Death, divorce, relocation, abandonment, and landlord problems are some of the most common reasons. Many who are rescued suffer from the effects of abuse and reglect; too many are in poor or life-threatening condition. Most are rehabilitated; only a handful cannot be saved. Medical care and careful screening before placement of a rescued dog are very important to the dog's welfare. Each animal taken in by DRU is examined by a veterinarian, treated, if necessary, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. All DRU animals are spayed or neutered. Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon, Inc. is a volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Golden Retrievers. Our mission is to find caring, adoptive homes for Goldens in need and to educate the public to prevent the homeless Goldens of the future. Goldens in need of new homes come from a variety of circumstances. Some come to us due to compelling family situations such as death, divorce, family illness, relocation or economic hardship. Other Goldens are released to rescue because of behavior problems due to lack of exercise and poor understanding of the needs of the breed. Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (covering Knoxville, TN and Decatur, AL and surrounding areas) was formed in July 1997 to facilitate the adoption of displaced and unwanted Golden Retrievers, to provide a good quality of life for homeless Golden Retrievers, to educate the public in responsible dog ownership, and to reduce the abuse and neglect of unwanted Golden Retrievers through rehabilitation and adoption. Most Goldens placed by TVGRR are currently in foster homes, which enables a better assessment of the temperament of each Golden for matching to an appropriate permanent home and provides prospective adopters the opportunity to visit the Golden in a non-kennel environment. All TVGRR Goldens are spayed/neutered (if old enough); fully vaccinated (including Bordatella); on heartworm preventative and micro-chipped. An adoption application, contract and fee are required.
