Dachshund:
Dachshund Rescue

A major focus of this site is the senior versions of these great, little dogs; there's also a great, big statement about the need to change attitudes toward adopting seniors. Benny Archuleta, who runs the Dachshund Rescue webpage writes: "I regret to tell you that I have seen an alarming increase in the number of senior Dachshunds needing homes. While the website has had some success in helping the majority of these Dachshunds find new homes (the most recent, a 13-year-old adopted by a person in St. Paul, MN), there are still far too many senior animals in need."

Doberman:
Doberman Rescue of New England

Doberman Rescue Unlimited
Since its founding in 1988, Doberman Rescue Unlimited, a non-profit rescue organization, has helped over 1,200 homeless Doberman Pinschers. Why so many? Death, divorce, relocation, abandonment, and landlord problems are some of the most common reasons. Many who are rescued suffer from the effects of abuse and reglect; too many are in poor or life-threatening condition. Most are rehabilitated; only a handful cannot be saved. Medical care and careful screening before placement of a rescued dog are very important to the dog's welfare. Each animal taken in by DRU is examined by a veterinarian, treated, if necessary, vaccinated, and tested for heartworm. All DRU animals are spayed or neutered. Pending placement, the dogs are kept in foster homes or are boarded at various facilities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Each dog is carefully evaluated before placement. Doberman Rescue Unlimited does not turn away other breeds or other animals and works closely with other rescue organizations. Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc., 52 Tenney Rd., Sandown, NH 03873. Hotline (leave a message): (603) 887-1200. E-mail: Doberman@dru.org
